Wattcrop to add 400 MW/1,600 MWh of storage in Greece - report

Greek renewables developer Wattcrop is working to develop two battery projects to add 400 MW/1,600 MWh of energy storage capacity in Greece’s Western Macedonia region, Energypress reports.

The anticipated investment in the schemes will surpass EUR 200 million (USD 215.5m).

Wattcrop’s plan is to install two facilities of 200 MW/800 MWh each in the municipalities of Eordaia and Eordaia, both located in the Kozani regional unit. According to the report, which cites a statement from the company, the developer has already received a producer certificate from Greece’s Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and will this month submit an environmental impact study with the respective authorities.

Ptolemaida-based Wattcrop aims to develop 1 GW of large-scale energy storage projects within the next three years.

In the summer of 2021, Wattcrop joined hands with Cero Generation, a solar-focused portfolio company of Green Investment Group (GIG), to create a company targeting to develop 750 MW of solar projects in Greece by 2025. The Greek company says on its website that the partnership also involves 600 MW of energy storage schemes.
