French renewable power producer and developer Akuo will this week hold an official ceremony to inaugurate its 4-MW Thessaly solar park in Greece, its first one in the Balkan country.
The event in Larissa is scheduled for Friday, February 17, 2023. It will be attended by company representatives, regional government officials and Petros Varelidis, general secretary of the Greek Ministry of the Environment and Energy.
Located in Greece’s Thessaly region, the photovoltaic (PV) park consists of four separate plants of 1 MW each, the output of which will be sold directly on the market with the help of local aggregator GEARS SA. The latter was set up last summer by Akuo and Greek solar installer Spyropoulos SA in order to represent Greek renewable energy producers at the wholesale electricity market.
Akuo has been operating in Greece since 2018. Eric Scotto, CEO of Akuo Energy Greece, has told local media that the company is undergoing licensing for a 500-MW portfolio of projects. According to the same reports, the French firm intends to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with Thessaly organisations to build agrivoltaic plants and intall PV panels across local water reservoirs.
