The commercial arm of Greek natural gas supplier Public Gas Corporation of Greece AE, better known as DEPA, will hold competitive rounds in order to find contractors for the installation of 550 MW of solar capacity across Greece, Energypress reports.
The proposed tenders will be launched within three months amid the company’s plan to make its entry into the renewable energy segment. The total budget to be distributed is estimated at some EUR 400 million (USD 428.7m).
According to the report, around 450 MW of the overall capacity will be located in the Western Macedonia and Kozani regions, with 400 MW to come from a single large-scale park. The remaining 100 MW of photovoltaic (PV) plants are due to be installed in the Viotia regional unit in southern Greece.
Unnamed sources have said that DEPA Commercial intends to provide incentives if the contracted projects are delivered earlier than scheduled. Under the plan, the projects should be completed by the end of 2024, with power production planned to kick off early in the following year.
The gas group is reported to have already secured grid-connection agreements for the projects and intends to sell the future generation via power purchase agreements.
