Eolus, Simply Blue to co-develop floating wind projects in Sweden, Finland

Irish floating offshore wind developer Simply Blue Group and Swedish renewables developer Eolus Vind AB (STO:EOLU-B) have teamed up to develop four floating offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea, two in Sweden and two in Finland.

An equally-owned joint venture between the companies called SeaSapphire is starting development of the projects -- Herkules and Skidbladner in Sweden, and Wellamo and an undisclosed project in Finland, according to an announcement today. Together they could generate up to 40 TWh a year, the partners estimate, increasing Sweden’s and Finland’s green electricity supply.

Skidbladner is located 100 km (62 miles) southeast of Stockholm, Herkules 60 km southeast of The Island of Gotland and Wellamo 90 km outside Satakunta Region. The undisclosed project is sited in the Finnish exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea.

The partners said their competencies complement, with the joint venture bringing together Eolus' experience of developing renewable projects with Simply Blue Group’s expertise in floating wind.
