US power utility CenterPoint Energy Inc (NYSE:CNP) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) through which it seeks to add various resources to its Indiana portfolio, including renewable energy capacity.
The company said on Wednesday that its subsidiary CenterPoint Energy Indiana South is looking for additional resources that will help it further diversify and expand its portfolio in anticipation of the future needs of its locally based customers.
The all-source RFP is open to renewable energy projects, including wind and solar and battery storage, whether hybridised or standalone. Thermal electric and natural gas-fired, nuclear and hydrogen projects and demand-side resources are also eligible. The utility is also targeting short-term capacity, with priority to be given to 2023-2025 proposals.
CenterPoint’s plan is to add the capacity either through power purchase agreements (PPAs), asset and project acquisitions, demand-side contracts and capacity contracts.
All projects have to become operational before March 1, 2027.
CenterPoint Energy supplies electricity to about 150,000 customers in southwestern Indiana. It has hired 1898 & Co, part of Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, to manage the RFP.
