The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on Tuesday opened a public scoping comment period in order to gather public input on an up to 200-MW solar project by a unit of NextEra Energy Resources LLC in Nevada’s Clark County.
Comments will be accepted during a 30-day period, through March 22, 2023. The Department of Interior (DOI) agency said it is seeking information about resources, recreational uses, and potential recipient sites for off-site mitigation funds.
“BLM invites input from the public to help inform the BLM’s development of the environmental assessment and regional mitigation strategy for the proposed project,” said Coreen Francis, acting Las Vegas field office manager.
The Dry Lake East Energy Center Solar Project is planned to cover 1,635 acres of public land located some 10 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The project last year won the preferred applicant status for installation within the Dry Lake East Designated Leasing Area, which is situated on BLM-administered land.
Boulevard Associates LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, is behind the project proposal. According to a preliminary development plan released in January, the solar complex is planned to be commissioned in the autumn of 2025 and will be coupled with a battery storage system.
