France’s Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has closed 2022 with 2.6 GW of renewable power plants in operation and under construction, reaching its goal a year earlier than planned.
The Paris-based power producer had 1,571 MW of renewable energy facilities generating electricity at the end of 2022 after commissioning 442 MW in the past year, which was a 39% increase in annual terms. Meanwhile, it started building new projects that brought its under-construction portfolio to 1,022 MW, against 580 MW at end-2021.
The list of projects that entered the construction phase includes the 50.6-MW Garrido cluster of small solar facilities in Portugal, the 140-MW Karavasta solar park in Albania, the 148-MW Bolobedu photovoltaic (PV) farm in South Africa, and a 260-MW solar complex in Brazil.
Voltalia previously unveiled a goal to have more than 5 GW of capacity in operation and under construction by end-2027, as well as over 8 GW of capacity in operation on behalf of clients by the same year. The company last month secured EUR 490 million (USD 519.8m) from a capital increase to back the 2027 target, for which it estimates investments will range from EUR 2.5 billion to EUR 3 billion.
In 2022, Voltalia signed long-term power sales contracts for 1,128 MW, against 310 MW in the previous year.
