TotalEnergies team bags 260 MW of S African power off-take deals

France’s TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) and its partner Mulilo have clinched deals to supply power from 260 MW wind and solar power capacity in South Africa for what is currently the world's largest oxygen production factory.

The parties have signed two power purchase agreements (PPAs) with South African energy and chemicals firm Sasol Ltd (JSE:SOL) and French industrial gases company Air Liquide SA (EPA:AI), the latter said on Tuesday.

The long-term power deliveries will go to Sasol’s Secunda site where Air Liquide operates the oxygen production facility. To meet their commitment, TotalEnergies and Mulilo will build a 140-MW wind farm and a 120-MW solar park, planning to bring them online in 2025.

The PPAs come on the heels of 220 MW of power off-take contracts for the Secunda site signed in January with Enel Green Power, the renewables arm of Italian electric utility Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL). They are aligned with Air Liquide’s and Sasol’s commitment for 900 MW of renewable energy procurement for Secunda.

According to the statement, negotiations for additional PPAs are in progress.
