French telecommunications giant Orange SA (EPA:ORA) on Wednesday said it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to support the installation of 80 MW of solar farms in France.
The telecom will off-take 100 GWh per year from Total Quadran, the renewable power production unit of French oil-and-gas major Total SA (EPA:FP), which will develop a dozen new plants on the customer’s behalf by 2024.

The solar farms will be located throughout metropolitan France.
The PPA comes with a 20-year term, Orange said.
The Orange group has set a target to become a net zero carbon business by 2040.
“By signing this contract with Total, Orange is acting in line with its objectives, which is to reduce its direct CO2 emissions by 30% compared with 2015 and to integrate 50% renewable energies into its electricity mix by 2025. We are proud to sign a third PPA with a French company and with a player of the scale of Total, which is voluntarily committed to the development of new means of production of renewable energy in the region,” said Fabienne Dulac, deputy CEO of Orange and Orange France CEO.
