Leroy Merlin taps Photosol, Voltalia for green power in France

French renewable power plants operator Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) and compatriot Photosol SA have signed contracts to deliver green power to domestic gardening retailer Leroy Merlin.

The power purchase agreements (PPAs) were unveiled on Monday by law group De Gaulle Fleurance, which provided legal counsel to Leroy Merlin. The contracts will facilitate the construction of three solar parks and a wind farm, which will collectively supply an average of 125 GWh annually for Leroy Merlin’s operations from 2024/25.

Specifically, Leroy Merlin has inked a deal with Photosol calling for the gardening retailer to procure electricity from two solar parks totalling 38 MWp. The plants will be built in the municipalities of Bellac and Mainzac and will supply Leroy Merlin with 45 GWh on average per year. With construction slated to begin in the second half of 2023, they are expected to be switched on in the following year.

Through a separate PPA with Voltalia, Leroy Merlin will receive additional power from an unspecified wind park and a solar farm project that is due to enter construction in the second half of this year.

Overall, the contracted electricity volumes will cover 57% of Leroy Merlin’s annual power consumption in France. The PPAs have terms of between 15 and 23 years.
