Switzerland opens 50 MW solar tender

Switzerland has launched an auction, seeking to award one-time subsidies (HEIV) for 50 MW of solar capacity to projects of over 150 kW each which feed their entire output into the grid.

Applications can be submitted until February 1, Pronovo, which is in charge of renewables subsidisation in Switzerland, said on its website.

This is the first tender of this kind to be held in Switzerland. It was introduced with the revision of the Energy Act which came into force on January 1, 2023 and covers up to 60% of the costs of reference systems.

The bid value of the projects competing in the February 1 round of the tender must not exceed CHF 650 (USD 705.69/EUR 649.15) per kW.

More rounds of the auction will be held at the beginning of May, August and November.

Overall, Switzerland will support the expansion of solar power with CHF 600 million (USD 651.4m/EUR 599.2m) in subsidies this year. Apart from the financial support allocated through the tender, other incentives include a one-time subsidy for small photovoltaic plants of up to 100 kW (KLEIV) and another one for large photovoltaic systems of over 100 kW (GREIV). These subsidies cover up to 30% of the investment costs of reference systems and apply to solar systems with or without self-consumption.

HEIV subsidies reimbursing up to 60% of the costs are available also for solar installations without self-consumption and a capacity below 150 kW but they are not granted through a tender.
