NorSun to supply its European solar wafers to Meyer Burger

Swiss photovoltaic (PV) products manufacturer Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWX:MBTN) said on Wednesday that it has signed a long-term agreement to secure the supply of Europe-made wafers from Norway’s NorSun AS.

Details on the quantities were not disclosed, but the volume is said to be “significant”.

The contract is in line with NorSun’s strategy to expand wafer production capacity. At the same time, Meyer Burger wants to boost its solar cell and module production to 3 GW per year by 2024.

The Swiss company said the agreement would enable it to raise the share of European-sourced wafers and to lower the carbon footprint of its high-performance solar modules.

Both companies highlighted their ambitions to contribute to strengthening of the European solar PV value chain.
