German wind turbine maker Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) saw its 2022 order intake contract by 20.4% in annual terms to 6.33 GW in the wake of the challenging macroeconomic environment.
The manufacturer closed 2022 with orders for 1,235 wind turbines, as compared to 1,636 turbines totalling 7.95 GW in the previous year, it announced on Tuesday. The larger order intake in 2021 was driven by a 1-GW contract from Spanish infrastructure and renewable energy conglomerate Acciona in Australia.
Last year, Nordex’s machines were selected for projects in 20 countries, with Europe accounting for 73% of the total annual order intake. The largest markets on the Old Continent were Germany, Finland, Turkey, Poland and Spain, while most of the deals in the Latin American region were placed for projects in Brazil and Colombia.
“[..] our high-performance turbine types from the 5 MW and our new 6 MW class continued to meet robust demand,” noted CEO Jose Luis Blanco.
In the closing quarter of 2022, Nordex secured deals to deliver 386 turbines for 1.9 GW of projects, against 3.3 GW in the same period of 2021. Regardless of the decrease, the company noted that the average sale price per megawatt of capacity was 16.9% higher on a yearly basis.
