Liquid Wind seeks enviro permit for second e-fuel project

Swedish electrofuel company Liquid Wind AB said on Wednesday it has filed an environmental permit application for its second commercial-scale green electrofuel facility, which will be located in Sundsvall, northeastern Sweden.

Environmental permission is being sought from the Land and Environment Court in Ostersund.

Liquid Wind will build its FlagshipTWO project in partnership with Sundsvall Energi. The facility will be connected to Sundsvall Energi’s cogeneration plant Korstaverket near the harbour in Tunadal. It will use biogenic carbon dioxide from Korstaverket and combine it with green hydrogen to produce electrofuel for the maritime industry.

FlagshipTWO is planned to have a capacity of 130,000 tonnes of green e-fuel a year, with construction start targeted in 2024 and commencement of operations in the beginning of 2026.

Danish clean energy group Ørsted A/S recently became full owner of Liquid Wind’s FlagshipONE project.

Liquid Wind is backed by investors including Swedish equipment manufacturer Alfa Laval AB, Siemens Energy AG, Danish catalysis company Topsoe and German energy company Uniper.
