Mytilineos solar parks to supply Vodafone's UK ops for 10 years

British telecoms giant Vodafone Group Plc (LON:VOD) has committed to procuring power from three solar parks that Greek industrial group Mytilineos SA (FRA:MYH) will build in England.

Vodafone said on Wednesday it will buy about 55 GWh of power annually for its UK operations. The supplies will be made under a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) between the telecoms group, Mytilineos and UK energy services company Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which is trading the electricity.

The power will be sourced from three photovoltaic (PV) farms in Lincolnshire, Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire. The plants are expected to have a combined annual output of more than 100 GWh, or enough to cover the consumption of close to 30,000 homes. The portion not bought by Vodafone will be sold to balancing and merchant power markets by Centrica.

The solar farms are due to go online by the end of this year.

Vodafone is targeting to become net-zero across its UK operations by 2027. Since last year, the company is running its business at home and in Europe, including mobile and fixed networks, data centres, retail and office network, with 100% renewable electricity.
