Aussie brewer to go 100% green with Lightsource bp solar PPA

Australian beer brand XXXX will be brewed with 100% green power after its owner inked a deal to off-take electricity from Lightsource bp’s 176-MW Woolooga Solar Farm in Queensland.

The power purchase agreement (PPA) between Lion and the UK solar developer half owned by BP Plc (LON:BP) was announced by the Aussie state’s government on Friday.

The contract covers the entire generation of Woolooga Solar Farm. Thanks to it, the brewery in Milton will be wholly supplied by renewables, while Lion will reach its 2025 goal for 100% purchased renewable electricity in Australia two years earlier than planned.

“All of our beer produced here – up to 250 million litres annually – is now made using 100% renewable electricity. This agreement will stop around 138,000 tonnes of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere,” said Justin Merrell, sustainability director at Lion.

Lightsource bp launched construction of the Woolooga Solar Farm in Queensland’s Gympie region in July 2021. Financial close on the project was taken a month earlier.
