Clean and renewable sources were behind 87.68% of Colombia’s power production in August, national grid operator XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados said.
In July, electricity production from Colombia’s large hydro power plants (HPPs) and non-conventional renewables added up to a 85.89% share.
According to XM, hydro inflows in August were higher than the historical average for the seventh month in a row, which benefited Colombia’s HPP reservoirs.
Clean power plants generated 186.99 GWh of electricity per day on average in August, up by 2.84% month-on-month. Power production from non-renewable sources dropped by 12.08% month-on-month to 26.27 GWh/day on average.
Colombia’s electricity system as a whole generated 6,611.12 GWh during August. This translated into an average of 213.26 GWh/day, up by 0.73% compared to July.
