Colombia's clean power share slows down to 85.9% in July

Colombia produced 85.89% of its power from clean and renewable sources in July, slightly down from 86.5% the month before, national grid operator XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados said in the regular monthly update.

The nation’s renewables, including large hydropower plants (HPPs), generated on average 181.81 GWh per day in July, up by 1.65% month-on-month. The higher output came on the back of increased production from biomass-based power plants, solar farms and run-of-river hydroelectric stations, but also from new wind power.

Colombia’s second wind farm, the 20-MW Guajira I, started undergoing tests in July and helped double wind power generation in the country, XM said.

In total, Colombia’s power plants generated 6,562.3 GWh of electricity for the national grid in July. This corresponded to 211.69 GWh/day on average, an increase of 2.38% compared to June.
