African dev bank issues SEK-1.25bn green bond

The African Development Bank (AfDB) last week launched a SEK-1.25-billion (USD 135m/EUR 127m) green bond, the fifth transaction under its Green Bond Framework.

In general, proceeds under that programme go to support renewable energy projects, energy efficiency improvements, carbon capture and storage, water saving measures and other climate change projects.

The latest offer attracted Swedish investors for 98% of the transaction. The green bonds mature on June 1, 2022 and have an annual fixed coupon of 0.375%.

“This is our third transaction in the Swedish green bond market and this bond will support our commitment to help the African continent gradual transition to green growth,” said Hassatou N’Sele, Treasurer, African Development Bank.

The bonds will be listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
