Nordic Solar to start EUR-150m plan with biodiversity-focused project

Copenhagen-based Nordic Solar A/S today announced plans to build a biodiversity-focused solar park of 32 MWp in the Danish region of Sjaelland.

The Funen solar farm will be installed in Hojby, Denmark’s Odense Municipality, which wants to become climate neutral by 2030. The company is getting ready to begin work next month and to have the plant up and running in 2023.

Together with GreenGo Energy Group A/S, Nordic Solar plans to invest over EUR 150 million (USD 150.3m) in a 250-MWp-plus portfolio over the next three to five years, and the Funen project is the first stage of this plan.

The developer referred to the project as a “Biodiversity Lighthouse” given that it will involve the re-establishment of ponds and scattering cut tree trunks around the solar panels to the benefit of various insects and animals. The solar power plant itself will be encircled with hedgerows to shield it from public view.

"We are currently completing a solar park on Als in Southern Jutland with a focus on biodiversity, and the experience and thoughts of that process are taken into consideration in this project here on Funen,” commented Glenn Aagesen, COO at Nordic Solar. Mols Consulting is responsible for the biodiversity work.
