Dutch geo-data specialist Fugro NV (AMS:FUR) has finished work on geophysical, geotechnical and environmental site investigations for RWE Renewables’ Dogger Bank South offshore wind farm in the UK.
The project, which could have a capacity of up to 3 GW, is located in the North Sea more than 110 km (68 miles) off the east coast of Yorkshire.
Fugro said it mobilised multiple vessels from its fleet to complete the surveys, which also covered export cable routes.
Trevor Baker, RWE Project’s lead for Dogger Bank South said the data "will help inform the environmental impact assessment process and help in the engineering design of the wind farms.”
“With an understanding of the seafloor and sub-surface conditions, geohazards and environmental constraints, RWE will be able to make informed decisions on their wind farm foundation designs, whilst also reducing installation risks and ensuring the most efficient cable routes,” added Peter Aarts, Fugro’s marine geophysical director Europe and Africa.
German energy group RWE AG’s (ETR:RWE) renewables subsidiary secured seabed rights for two sites which make up Dogger Bank South in The Crown Estate’s Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 in February last year. In July this year it was given the green light to proceed with the signing of a lease agreement.
