Statkraft wins Scottish govt nod for 67.2-MW wind farm project

Norwegian energy group Statkraft A/S has been granted planning approval for its 67.2-MW Artfield Forest wind park project in Scotland’s Dumfries and Galloway council area.

The permit was awarded by the Scottish government last week, Statkraft said on the Artfield Forest project’s website.

The proposal calls for the installation of 12 turbines with a maximum height of 180 metres to blade tip, which will be capable of producing electricity for some 60,000 homes each year. Statkraft expects construction to be launched as early as 2026.

Artfield Forest is estimated to require an investment of up to GBP 36.3 million (USD 43.7m/EUR 40.8m) during the development stage, while an additional GBP 27.6 million will be needed for the construction phase. The proposal comes with a community benefit fund of GBP 5,000 per MW installed.

Originally, the project consisted of 20 turbine generators but their number was cut during the design process following feedback from the community and statutory bodies.
