Norwegian floating wind player Odfjell Oceanwind and pan-European renewables developer Source Galileo will submit their project UtsiraVIND to the competition for floating offshore wind sites off the coast of Norway.
The Norwegian government’s plan is to split the 1,500-MW Utsira Nord area in the North Sea into three 500-MW zones and award seabed leases for the sites based on qualitative criteria.
Odfjell Oceanwind and Source Galileo responded to a hearing round that the ministry of petroleum and energy held to gather input on its proposed criteria for award. One of their messages was that the Utsira Nord wind farms could be operational in 2028, if done right, Odfjell Oceanwind said.
The partners told the ministry it should also prioritise developers that can develop the projects fast, but the minimum criteria for qualifying as a developer should not be unreasonably strict.
Odfjell Oceanwind and Source Galileo, through Norwegian branch Source Galileo Norge AS, announced their partnership in November 2022. They signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on developing floating wind projects using Odfjell Oceanwind’s technologies.
At the time, they said they would target the installation of wind farms for the electrification of oil-and-gas platforms, selected floating wind farms in Europe and enter the UtsiraVIND project in the Utsira Nord competition for seabed leases.
