Brazilian wind developer Casa dos Ventos Energias Renovaveis has issued BRL 430 million (USD 87m/EUR 82.4m) worth of green debentures to finance part of the expansion of the 1,038 MW Rio do Vento wind complex.
The debentures are tied to four wind parks with a combined capacity of 238 MW. The papers will have semiannual remuneration and a total term of 16 years, Casa dos Ventos said on Thursday.
Local banks BTG Pactual, Itau BBA and BNDES coordinated the offer. This is the BNDES' first time coordinating the issuance of debentures as well as the wind developer's first green debenture issuance.
Once up and running, the four new wind plants should be able to generate some 1,389 GWh per year. In all, Casa dos Ventos plans to add 534 MW to Rio do Vento by 2023.
With 240 wind turbines in total, Rio do Vento will require BRL 4.9 billion in investments.
The first phase of the wind complex, with a capacity of 504 MW, is already in operation, supplying clean energy to Anglo American, Braskem, Grupo Moura, Tivit, Vulcabras, among others.
