DMG Mori launches part of 13.4-MW rooftop solar plant in Japan

Japanese machine tools maker DMG Mori Seiki Co Ltd (TYO:6141) has started power generation from a 5.4-MW portion of a 13.4-MW rooftop solar plant it is installing at its Iga Campus located in Mie prefecture, south-central Japan.

This initial solar system should be capable of producing 6 million kWh per year, which would be enough to cover approximately 13% of the Iga Campus' annual electricity demand.

DMG Mori said that the photovoltaic (PV) project will be commissioned in three phases. A 5.2-MW portion is scheduled to commence in February 2024 and the rest should be switched on in December 2024.

Once fully operational, the PV facility will cover a roof area of 130,000 sq m (1,399,308 sq ft), making it the largest self-consumption solar system in Japan. With a 14,000-MWh yearly output, the solar park will meet some 30% of Iga Campus' annual consumption.
