The Chilean government, through national development agency Corfo, has awarded a total of USD 50 million (EUR 44.3m) in funding support to six initiatives in Chile’s first call for green hydrogen proposals.
The selected projects are promoted by renewables company Enel Green Power Chile SA, industrial gases suppliers Linde Plc (NYSE:LIN) of Germany and Air Liquide SA (EPA:AI) of France, French utility Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), Chilean liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal operator GNL Quintero SA and iron and steel producer CAP SA, the energy ministry announced on Wednesday.
Corfo picked six out of 12 submissions, and expects the projects to attract around USD 1 billion worth of investments and bring Chile close to 400 MW of electrolysis capacity, the agency said separately.
Some of the criteria for selection were that the projects have to install at least 10 MW of electrolysers and start operations no later than December 2025.
