Swiss power producer and energy trader Alpiq said on Tuesday that it has signed long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to off-take the production output of an 82.5-MW wind farm in Finland.
Alpiq signed the contract with Merkkikallio Wind Oy, the special purpose vehicle (SPV) behind the Merkkikallio wind project. The SPV is owned by London-based renewable energy investment platform Renewable Power Capital (RPC).
Merkkikallio is sited near the city of Vaasa, in Finland’s Southern Ostrobothnia region, where 15 turbines will stand. The project used to be owned by Swedish renewables developer OX2, which sold it to RPC in a package with two other wind developments in Finland.
According to the latest update by OX2, which is working as the EPC contractor on Merkkikallio, the wind farm is currently under construction and is scheduled to start commercial operation some time in 2022.
RPC recently signed a corporate PPA with Finnish telecommunications company Elisa Oyj (HEL:ELISA) to deliver the output from its 44-MW Puutikankangas wind farm project in Finland. For Alpiq, the latest agreement is part of its strategy to boost its market share in the Nordic countries, the Swiss energy company added.
