Colombia adds 98 MW of solar power in July-Sept

Eight solar farms totalling 98 MW were added to Colombia’s power grid between July 1 and September 30, the national grid operator XM said.

These plants raised the nation’s solar power capacity by 62% to a total of 258.66 MW, according to XM’s data base.

Besides solar, the 200-MW El Tesorito gas-fired thermal power plant also started operation during the observed period. This project was awarded firm energy obligations (OEFs) in Colombia’s reliability charge auction in 2019. The plant, co-owned by power company Celsia, went into operation in mid-September, more than two months before it was supposed to start supplying firm energy under the OEF scheme, XM said.

Celsia, Enel Colombia and other companies in the power sector also completed some grid enhancement works during the three months through September, the grid operator added.
