Vestas to consolidate China and Asia Pacific business regions

Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) will combine its two business regions China (CHI) and Asia Pacific (ASP) into one covering the Greater Asia region called Asia Pacific (APAC) as part of steps to align to the changing energy market.

The Danish wind turbine maker today said the move is the next step in its strategic alignment, key elements of which are the company’s reentry into offshore wind with the acquisition of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind and optimisation of its global organisational blueprint.

The regions’ consolidation will become effective on January 1, 2022. Purvin Patel, current president of Vestas ASP, will be in charge of the new region.

Vestas president and chief executive Henrik Andersen said the global energy market is changing rapidly, with fast-growing energy demand in Asia, an ongoing maturation of wind energy’s supply chain and a rapid expansion of offshore wind beyond Europe.

“By creating one Vestas business region for Greater Asia, we strengthen our regional setup to serve customers building their portfolio within both onshore and offshore, cater for our substantial supply chain footprint in China and India, establish one united and stronger leadership team, and improve our foundation to build a strong and diverse talent pipeline.” Andersen added.

Vestas will keep a dedicated management team focused on China, where it has a manufacturing hub in Tianjin.
