Shunfeng to build 10-GW TopCon PV cell factory in China

China’s Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd (HKG:1165), the parent of photovoltaics (PV) maker Wuxi Suntech Power Co Ltd, has clinched a deal to set up a 10-GW production base for TopCon solar cells in China’s Anhui province.

The project will be realised with a total investment of some INR 10.5 billion (USD 1.53bn/EUR 1.43bn). Apart from the PV cell manufacturing, it also envisages the installation of solar and wind power generation capacity and some battery energy storage, Suntech said last week.

The Chinese firm has signed a cooperation agreement with the municipal government of Suzhou City and the Suma Park of Suzhou City industrial park. The new factory will produce 210 mm large-size MBB high-power components, compatible with 182 mm MBB cells.

Shunfeng currently has production facilities in Wuxi, Changzhou, Chuzhou and Suzhou. The company is capable of producing 16.5 GW of solar cells and 25 GW of modules annually. While the parent company is focused on PV cell manufacturing, the production of modules is handled by Suntech.
