GEK Terna wins PPC tender to build 550-MW solar park in Greece - report

Greek construction group GEK Terna has won the tender to build a 550-MW solar park in Greece’s Western Macedonia region on behalf of PPC Renewables, the green energy unit of Greek power utility PPC SA (ATH:PPC), according to local media.

The parent of renewable energy company Terna Energy SA (ATH:TENERGY) has offered the best price in the tender with an estimated value of some EUR 216 million (USD 225.4m), news portal Insider.gr says. Rivals in the competition to perform the task were Metka, part of Greek industrial conglomerate Mytilineos SA, Res Invest, CMEC, Avax and Aktor (Ellaktor Group).

The scope of work covers the civil engineering works, equipment procurement and transportation, and the installation, construction and commissioning of the photovoltaic (PV) park. The supply of the PV panels is excluded but the construction and repair of grid-connection infrastructure facilities is also part of the job.

The solar farm will be installed at the site of the former Ptolemaida lignite mine in the municipalities of Eordaia and Kozani, northwestern Greece. It should be up and running in 22 months.

As part of its 2022-2026 business plan, PPC aims to grow its installed renewables fleet to 7.2 GW by 2024 and 9.5 GW by 2026 and move away from coal. The goal will be reached with an investment of EUR 9.3 billion.
