Ilmatar energises 26-MW wind farm in southern Finland

Ilmatar Energy has launched commercial operations at its 26-MW Humppila-Urjala wind farm in southern Finland, the Finnish renewables developer said on Monday.

The six-turbine park is equipped with six turbines located in the municipalities of Humppila and Urjala, at the border of Tavastia Proper and Pirkanmaa regions. The site was previously used for forestry and peat production.

The Finnish firm expects the power plant to generate around 60 GWh of electricity annually, equal to the power consumption of more than 5,000 heated detached houses.

Ilmatar, through project vehicle Ilmatar Humppila-Urjala Oy, acquired the rights to the Humppila-Urjala scheme from its developer Voimamylly Oy in 2019. The group’s subsidiary Ilmatar Service Oy will take care of the plant’s technical and commercial management.

Ilmatar has a portfolio of onshore wind and solar assets in Finland exceeding 8 GW, including projects under development, construction and in operation. Through 2023, it expects to put on stream 48 wind turbines in its home country, in addition to Humppila-Urjala.

In September 2022, Ilmatar inaugurated its 211-MW Piiparinmaki wind farm in central Finland, which was built without state subsidies and is currently the largest onshore wind complex in the country.
