Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Ltd (SHA:601615) today announced a new turbine model, the MySE 18.X-28X, going beyond the 18-MW threshold.
A potential timeframe for prototype installation and mass production was not provided.
The company said that with 140-metre (459ft)-long blades, the MySE 18.X-28X can generate 80 GWh of electricity per year at an annual average wind speed of 8.5 m/s.
It estimates that compared to 13-MW models, the MySE18.X-28X would mean 18 fewer machines needed for a 1-GW wind farm and a reduction of construction costs by USD 120,000-150,000 (EUR 111,000-139,000) per MW.
The turbine would be able to operate at extreme ocean conditions such as a level-17 typhoon, the manufacturer also said.
A week ago, Mingyang announced the MySE 8.5-216 model, described as the world’s biggest onshore wind turbine. The company said it is part of a new platform including also its recently released MySE 7.15-216.
Mingyang also recently said it has completed production of the first MySE260 blade for its upgraded MySE 16-260 offshore wind turbine.
In June 2022, the company celebrated production of its first MySE 12 MW hybrid drive offshore wind turbine, an upgrade of the 11-MW platform.
