The Ocean Winds joint venture (JV) between EDP Renewables (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI) announced today it has received a positive environmental decision for its 400-MW BC-Wind offshore wind farm in the Polish Baltic Sea.
The decision, made by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection (RDOS) in Gdansk, marks the completion of the project’s environmental impact assessment process.
“Now we are focusing on the next phases of investment, especially securing the contracts with supply chain in line with the targeted project schedule,” said Grzegorz Gorski, chief operating officer of Ocean Winds.
BC-Wind is planned to be located about 23 km (14.3 miles) north of the municipalities of Choczewo and Krokowa in Poland’s Pomeranian Voivodeship in the northern part of the country. It is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2027.
Ocean Winds initiated work on the BC-Wind project in 2019 with the start of environmental analyses, six years after being awarded a site permit for two projects, namely C-Wind and B-Wind. Transmission system operator Polish Electricity Networks issued grid-connection conditions for the combined scheme.
BC-Wind was among the winners in a national contract for difference (CfD) auction in 2021. The contract was awarded at a strike price of PLN 319.60 (USD 65.6/EUR 66.7) per MWh.
