Swedish energy systems supplier Metacon said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the forest directorate of Poland's city of Katowice covering the preparations for a 5-MW turnkey green hydrogen project.
The MoU outlines the steps prior to the order, estimated at USD 5.8 million (EUR 5.3m), and the delivery of a 5-MW electrolyser system to be connected to a photovoltaic (PV) installation in Katowice, Metacon said in a press release on Wednesday. The PV system is to be owned and operated by the directorate, while Metacon is to deploy the electrolysers and the infrastructure.

The agreement is part of the Regional Directorate of State Forests' (RDSF) project of investing in fossil-free energy to power public transport. Its plans involve the construction of several facilities for green hydrogen.
The RDSF wants to make use of areas under its management, which will never be a forest, such as terrains beneath power lines, RDSF head Damian Sieber commented. The project for the production and storage of green hydrogen is of great value since storing surpluses of green energy is a real challenge nowadays, Sieber added.
