A consortium of RWE Renewables, Equinor (OSE:EQNR) and Hydro REIN, which is looking to develop an offshore wind farm in Norway, has agreed a partnership with a potential provider of port facilities in the Mandal area on the southern Norwegian coast.
The consortium, formed last year, will seek to develop a bottom-fixed offshore wind farm in the Sorlige Nordsjo II area in the North Sea, the first phase of which with a potential for a 1.5-GW wind farm will be auctioned by the Norwegian government next year.
Windport AS, a unit of Global Ocean Technology, eyes delivering port facilities for the development and construction phase of the wind park.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the parties will examine feasibility for a potential industrial development, related to such port facilities, RWE AG (ETR:RWE) said on Monday.
“Efficient assembly and logistics will be key to projects in the Sorlige Nordsjo. We are impressed by the proactivity and efforts from Windport and the municipalities in the area,” said Pal Tore Svendsen, head of offshore wind at Hydro REIN.
“The planned offshore wind development in the Sorlige Nordsjo II area represents great business opportunities for the Southern part of Norway, and we are looking forward to jointly explore how the Mandal area can provide the port facilities needed, with Equinor, RWE and Hydro,” commented Windport chief executive Oystein Sunde Pedersen.
