Brazil's BNDES okays USD-2.2m loan for biogas upgrade

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved the provision of up to BRL 11.8 million (USD 2.2m/EUR 2.1m) in additional funding to Albioma Codora Energia for the implementation of a new biogas production line at an existing facility in Goianesia, Goias state.

BNDES said on Thursday that the new financing, which adds to an initial loan of BRL 13.3 million, will increase energy exports from the plant by 22 GWh, raising total production to 200 GWh.

The project will make vinasse the site's third feedstock option, the other being sugarcane bagasse and straw.

The bank’s financing will cover 83% of the total cost of the project, which is estimated at BRL 30.4 million. According to BNDES, the supplementary energy generated by the new production line is intended for regulated and free markets.
