Goldbeck Solar to install 42 MWp of fresh solar in Austria

German solar developer Goldbeck Solar has been awarded a contract to build two solar photovoltaic (PV) parks in Austria with a combined capacity of 42 MWp.

The solar farms will be set up on behalf of Vienna-based renewable energy producer ImWind Erneuerbare Energie GmbH in Nickelsdorf in northeastern Burgenland close to the Hungarian border and in Tauernwind, Styria, central Austria.

Construction work on the projects is set to begin in the spring of this year. Once completed by the end of 2023, the PV systems are expected to supply around 13,000 local households with green power and save around 22,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The electricity produced by the two power plants will be fed into the public network via the grid infrastructure of existing wind farms which will lower the costs of grid expansion.

The two projects mark Goldbeck Solar's entry into the Austrian PV market.

ImWind has been developing, building and operating wind farms and photovoltaic parks in Austria and abroad for over 25 years. In total, 140 wind and solar plants now produce around 1 TWh of clean electricity annually and supply over 300,000 households in Austria.

In the next two years, the company plans to invest more than EUR 100 million (USD 108.14m) in the construction of new wind and solar farms to expand renewable energy and strengthen the security of supply in Austria.
