Repsol, Ibereolica fire up 165-MW wind farm in Chile

Spanish joint venture (JV) partners Repsol SA (BME:REP) and Grupo Ibereolica Renovables have commissioned their 165.3-MW Atacama wind farm in Chile, their second such project in the South American country.

The wind farm is made up of 29 pieces of the Nordex N163 5.7-MW turbines, which have already started feeding electricity into the grid, Repsol said.

The project was funded with a USD-118-million (EUR 109.8m) loan extended by France’s Credit Agricole CIB to the 50/50 JV Repsol Ibereolica Renovables Chile. The Atacama wind farm is also backed by a 14-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with an unnamed party.

Repsol joined independent renewables firm Grupo Ibereolica back in 2020 to gain access to its 1,600-MW wind and solar portfolio in Chile and have all the projects up and running in 2025. The oil-and-gas major said that over 1,200 MW of those projects are in operation, under construction or at an advanced development stage.

The partners’ first project in Chile is the now operational 192.5-MW Cabo Leones III wind farm.
