Apex secures permit for 209-MW wind project in North Dakota

US renewables developer Apex Clean Energy has been granted approval by North Dakota regulators to build a 208.7-MW wind farm in the state’s Bowman County, planning to begin construction this year.

The project, called Bowman Wind, was awarded a certificate of site compatibility on Friday, a document by the state Public Service Commission (PSC) shows.

Project vehicle Bowman Wind LLC is proposing to install up to 74 turbine generators on a site encompassing almost 33,900 acres (13,720 ha) of land to deliver power from up to 200.1 MW to the grid. A specific turbine model has still not been selected.

The developer expects to launch construction works as early as in the closing quarter of this year and bring the wind farm only in the third quarter of 2024, at the earliest. The required investment needed to implement the project is estimated at around USD 300 million (EUR 279.9m).

Bowman Wind was awarded a county use permit in July 2022. The project was initially designed to include a battery storage facility but that component was later removed from the developer’s proposal.
