Dutch SDE++ subsidy scheme to award EUR 13bn in 2022

The Netherlands has allocated a budget of EUR 13 billion (USD 14.3bn) for the 2022 round of its SDE++ incentive programme for renewables and expanded the bag of eligible technologies, the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced on Friday.

The Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition Incentive Scheme (SDE++) will be launched on June 28, with a budget that has been lifted from the previous call by EUR 6 billion. The programme is open to all renewable energy technologies contributing to sustainable energy production and carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction, including advanced renewable fuels.

Due to the increased allocation, the programme in 2022 will accept a higher number of technologies, including hydrogen production proposals linked to wind and solar park projects. Industrial electrification projects based on hybrid glass furnaces will also be able to compete for funding, as well.

The Dutch authorities have also decided to extend the construction timeframe for geothermal projects, while carbon capture and storage (CCS) schemes will be granted an extra year to get completed.

In the 2021 opening round of SDE++, projects totalling 4.1 GW were competing for subsidies, according to provisional data. The available budget in this round is EUR 5 billion.
