Turkey's Karapinar photovoltaic (PV) power plant located in the city of Konya, currently under construction, will become fully operational by the end of this year, local media reported.
The current installed capacity of the solar park is 700 MW, but it will increase to 1,350 MW when the facility becomes fully operational, Anadolu Agency quoted Cemal Kalyoncu, chairman of Turkey's Kalyon Holding, the company responsible for the project, as saying on Monday.
The PV plant will employ 3,000 people and will provide electricity to 2 million, Kalyoncu added.
The Karapinar plant is the largest solar facility in Turkey to have received the biggest financial contribution in the country's renewables sector. Kalyon Enerji, a unit of Kalyon Holding, signed a financing agreement with eight Turkish and international banks for $812 million (752.4 million euro) financing for the plant, according to Anadolu Agency.
The PV plant spread on approximately 20 million sq m of land in Konya’s Karapinar district. The solar park is expected to prevent 1.5 million tonnes of fossil waste and carbon emissions per year. The installation and commissioning of 3.5 million panels will be carried out in the span of approximately 36 months starting August 2020, according to information published on the website of Kaylon.
Kalyon Holding has nearly 35,000 employees and more than 75 years of experience in the construction, investment - management, real estate, energy, and industry sectors, information published on the company's website also showed.
