Plenitude, part of Italian oil and gas company Eni SpA (BIT:ENI), and Irish floating wind developer Simply Blue Group have agreed to jointly develop a pipeline of floating offshore wind projects in Italy.
The first two projects the partners will work on as part of the joint development agreement total about 2.4 GW and have already been submitted to the relevant authorities, according to an announcement today.
The schemes are located off the southern Italian coast -- the 1.3-GW Messapia project about 30 km (18.6 m) off the coast of Otranto and the 1.1-GW Krimisa project 45 km off Crotone.
"With this partnership, Plenitude expands its portfolio of floating wind projects in line with its target of reaching 15 GW of renewable capacity by 2030 and reaffirms its commitment to creating an offshore wind supply chain in Italy,” said Plenitude chief executive Stefano Goberti.
In April 2022, GreenIT, a joint venture between Plenitude and CDP Equity, partnered with a fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to co-develop two floating wind projects -- a 250-MW project in Sicily, off the coast of Marsala, and a 500-MW-plus scheme in the sea area facing the south-western coast of Sardinia.
