Denmark-based engineering consultancy COWI said on Tuesday it will work on the early design of the foundations for the up-to-450-MW Sceirde Rocks offshore wind project in Ireland.
The company has been contracted by Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, to be pre-front-end engineering design (FEED) designer for the project as it is being prepared to take part in the offshore competition under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (ORESS-1) in Ireland.
The project, located in the North Atlantic Ocean to the west of Galway, will use fixed foundations. It is being developed by Fuinneamh Sceirde Teoranta, a joint venture by Corio Generation and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.
“COWI will supply the Pre-FEED design, which will enable Corio to approach potential suppliers for quotes for the project’s implementation,” explained senior market director Damian McGirr.
Sceirde Rocks is currently in the permitting process. It was designated as one of seven ‘Relevant Status’ developments in Ireland, meaning it is among the first wave of offshore wind farms in the country. Green Investment Group acquired its developer last year.
For COWI the contract comes after it was selected just recently by Statkraft to serve as owner’s engineer for the North Irish Sea Array offshore wind farm, which the Norwegian state-owned renewables generator is developing in Ireland.
