The Irish unit of EDF Renewables will be looking to have up to 500 MW of operational plants by the end of the decade and is getting ready to submit the first of a series of planning applications for onshore wind projects.
This was mentioned on Monday by Jenny Howard, who was just announced to be the new head of development at EDF Renewables Ireland.
The company, which has an onshore project pipeline of around 1 GW, has already shared plans for the development and construction of four wind farms in the country – one in each of County Clare, County Carlow, County Kilkenny and County Louth.
“We expect to submit our first planning applications early in the new year, and 2023 will also see the start of construction on a 130 hectare solar farm in county Roscommon. Our team continues to work hard to ensure projects are developed in consultation with local communities, and we’re focused on achieving our goal of having up to 500 MW worth of projects operational by 2030,” Howard stated.
EDF Renewables also has a 50% stake in the Codling Wind Park project, which is being developed off the coast of County Wicklow.
Howard has nearly 15 years of experience in the industry and has so far been involved in the realisation of close to 300 MW of onshore wind projects in Ireland. Before being appointed as the new head of development, she served as EDF Renewables’ Development Manager for Ireland. She has also held project management positions at Gaelectric and Wind Prospect.
