Australian green hydrogen producer Line Hydrogen has tied up with Blue Cap Mining Pty Ltd to supply the gold miner with renewable energy and green hydrogen for its operations in Western Australia.
The parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that paves the way for what will be the first carbon-neutral mine in the Aussie state, Line Hydrogen said on Monday.

Specifically, Line Hydrogen will design, develop and operate renewable power plants at Blue Cap's Lord Byron Gold Mine to meet the site’s energy requirements and replace the use of diesel fuel.
The company said it will develop renewable power and green hydrogen facilities "producing circa 49GW of power each year".
With the pre-feasibility study seen to be finalised by end-2022, the development of the project is seen to commence early in 2023. Construction works are expected to begin within 18 months afterwards.
"The partnership will utilise our green hydrogen production, as well as technology designed by LINE to power on-site mining and processing equipment, and on-road heavy haulage,” said Brendan James, founder and CEO of Line Hydrogen.
According to the green hydrogen firm’s estimates, the scheme will allow Blue Cap to displace around 13.2 million litres of diesel annually from the mine’s normal activities.
