Fluor wins engineering contract for renewable diesel unit at Canadian refinery

US engineering company Fluor Corp (NYSE:FLR) on Monday announced a contract for Imperial Oil Ltd’s (TSE:IMO) planned renewable diesel complex at its Strathcona refinery near Edmonton, Alberta, which is expected to become Canada’s largest renewable diesel production facility.

Fluor has secured a reimbursable front-end engineering and detailed design, engineering and procurement services contract for the project, which will have a daily production capacity of about 20,000 barrels of renewable diesel and will use locally sourced feedstocks. The contract, of an undisclosed amount, was booked in the third quarter of 2022.

The Texas-based company explained it will design and integrate a new renewable diesel unit into the existing refinery in Alberta.

Imperial unveiled plans for the renewable diesel complex in the summer of 2021, saying then that production was expected to start in 2024.
