UPDATE - DG Fuels to build 2nd SAF plant at former Air Force base in Maine

DG Fuels LLC, the developer of a low-CO2 life cycle emissions synthetic fuel system, plans to build its second sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in the state of Maine where it has just leased land for this purpose.

The company said in a statement that it has signed a long-term lease deal with the Loring Development Authority for 1,240 acres of contiguous land in Aroostock County, part of the former Loring Air Force Base located near Limestone and Caribou. There, the new facility will be able to rely on imported hydroelectric power and regional timber and agricultural waste.

DG Fuels’ second plant will have an initial output of about 175 million gallons of SAF per year. The company is currently considering the option to deliver SAF to New York City airports or other major East Coast airport locations.

The project is expected to enter the construction phase in the summer of 2024 and to be completed in 2027.

Just a couple of days before this announcement, DG Fuels said it had secured 100% offtake from its first project in Louisiana.

The company’s green hydrogen technology partner, HydrogenPro AS (OSE:HYPRO) of Norway, said separately it will supply about 1.7 GW of total electrolysers for the two projects.
