J-POWER begins commercial operation at 4.3-MW wind farm in Japan

Japanese electric utility Electric Power Development Co Ltd (TYO:9513), known as J-POWER, announced today that its 4.3-MW New Shimamaki wind farm on Hokkaido island commenced commercial operation.

The power generator is a single 4.3-MW wind turbine supplied by Siemens Gamesa.

J-Wind Co Ltd, J-POWER's wholly-owned subsidiary, worked on the project as the installer and was tasked with updating the plant in line with the utility's plan to update facilities at aging sites.

J-Wind is also in charge of the turbine's operation.

J-POWER says that it has approximately 662.4 MW of wind power capacity in Japan, including facilities in operation, under construction and undergoing renewal.

Globally, the utility has roughly 876.64 MW of operating and under-construction wind power plants, including its share of the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm in the UK.
