Hydrogen Utopia to turn waste into energy in southwest Poland

Hydrogen Utopia International PLC (AQSE:HUI), a London-based company focused on non-recyclable waste plastics to hydrogen technology, said its Polish unit has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the south-western Polish city of Walbrzych to develop an HUI facility in the municipality.

The Polish subsidiary Hydropolis United and the city will work together to prepare the documents necessary for planning and permitting the construction of an HUI facility for processing mixed waste plastic, HUI said in a press release on Monday.

The city will help select a suitable site and ensure sufficient volumes of plastic waste as feedstock for the facility, which will produce syngas to be turned into electricity or pure hydrogen. The plant could also generate heat for the district heating system.

HUI is going to work jointly with UK plastic-to-energy specialist Powerhouse Energy Group (LON:PHE) to determine the most appropriate system to be installed in Walbrzych, Aleksandra Binkowska, CEO of HUI said.

Walbrzych is transforming from a coal mining city into an industrial hub with a focus on the circular economy and a hydrogen future, Binkowska added. The initiative with Hydropolis appears to be the perfect solution to tackle the issue with waste plastic, Walbrzych mayor Roman Szelemej commented.

In Poland, HUI has recently partnered with energy infrastructure company Romgos Gwiazdowscy and electrical systems specialists Elkardis to start working on deploying HUI facilities in the country.

In July, HUI agreed heads of terms with Powerhouse Energy Group to jointly develop in Ireland what is expected to become HUI's first operational full-scale waste plastic-to-hydrogen facility in Europe.
